“Your first instinct is to compete with the image of where you thought you were going to be, with where you actually are.” This speaks volumes to someone living with a chronic illness or when experiencing the grief of loss. You can never quite believe you’re swamped under the wave when that wasn’t the plan.
Thanks Amber ☺️ Feel free to use it if it helps your message land with your chronic illness peeps. No I don’t need credit. I don’t know where it came from anyways. 😆🙏
Nice to have your voice back on Substack David. What a turbulent time, and no, I don't think you owe us any apology or even explanation. Take your time, your wellbeing and inner journey comes first before writing content for others ❤️

Your writing is so welcome, Dave. It’s timing and pace is a comfort and reassuring mirror for the parts of me who can’t live to kinds of cultural expectations, and feel subject to the idea that ‘can’t’ reflects a failure in me. Maybe when writing arrives ‘out of the blue’ of the ether and chaos of experience, it’s draws with it the hint of a rhythm or orbit that’s far more expansive and less tangible in the 9-5? Less tangible and so, very much needed. I just celebrate that you do what you do, and offer a window into your world, in your own good time. (Blather: I could do worse than go write my own post!🤣) 💚
Pierre is easily my favourite character in War and Peace. I find his emotional journey and his lack of confidence so touching. He has a wonderful character development arc in store. I can highly recommend Paul Dano’s performance in the recent TV adaptation.
Ooooh thanks Miranda! Will be lovely to get my Pierre fix once the slow read is over. He’ll be a big miss. I hadn’t thought of him lacking in confidence but he does seem unsure in the world. 🙏💖
Love the analogies! 🌊
