Hello Dear Ones,
I’ve been thinking on where we are, where we’re going and where we’ve been - want to come along for some reflections on that?
Before we begin, my wife, Claire is a big fan of Lauren Barber’s Yoga Nidra meditations. Yoga Nidra describes a meditation practice but also a state - a deeply relaxed place somewhere between consciousness and sleep.
I’m wondering with all the overwhelm and information overload we’re all experiencing wether we could try a different kind of reading experience?
I’m wondering if we could we read perhaps from this state?
Could we stop working so hard to decipher and nail down what I’m saying or where this information needs to live amongst all the other tonnes of information you’ve learnt over the years?
Could we let the words wash over us…much more like a dream you’ve been glad to experience and less like a dream you need to lie on a couch and have analysed?
If I were a more skilled writer of course then perhaps you wouldn’t need such an invitation but whilst I work on these skills is it OK if you bring yourself into this Nidra by taking a deep, slow, soft breath. By feeling your feet on the ground. By softening your eyes and your belly.
Here we go…
The Buddhists say we sleepwalk through life, and then we die.
What do they mean ‘asleep’?
Are you asleep?
Am I asleep?
Hibernation
My first thought, “Give me a break. It’s winter, we’re supposed to be sleeping.”
I don’t know about you, but I feel the need for more sleep yet paradoxically, less winter.
How are you feeling about where you are in your year?
Here’s a little energetic blank space so you can catch up with yourself.
What’s your one-or-two-word gut answer (aka. intuition) for each?
PHYSICALLY I’M____________________________________________________________
MENTALLY I’M_____________________________________________________________
SPIRITUALLY I’M__________________________________________________________
Premature Spring Cleaning
When I feel into my body and where I’m at in the year, I’m finding a pull to be in Spring already.
Stop, David. Feel your feet on the ground. What can you see, smell, feel?
OK. The snowdrops are here and looking lovely. The crocuses have started to emerge. They’re looking worse for wear with the deluge of rain. The daffodils are coming…
I sense everything is how it’s meant to be.
Does this connect with you where you are today?
David
Yoga nidra has long been my favourite practice and is slowly, slowly teaching me how to access that state you speak of, that background of spacious awareness, through my waking life, whatever is in the foreground. It has been the greatest gift of my yoga journey 😊🧘♀️
I feel the desire to rush into Spring, but like you said, what is happening right here right now. Where I am it is warmer and things are blooming, but internally, I still feel a bit like winter and I want to honor that.
